The itinerary begins with essential acclimatization in Leh before introducing the monasteries, palaces and Buddhist traditions of the Indus Valley. Continue west to Alchi and Lamayuru, where ancient monastic art, dramatic mountain formations and peaceful settlements reveal a quieter side of Ladakh.

Cross the Ladakh Range into Nubra Valley for two nights, allowing time to explore Diskit, Hunder and the surrounding villages without immediately continuing to Pangong Lake. The journey then crosses remote mountain landscapes to Pangong before returning to Leh.

This is a comfort-focused high-altitude journey rather than a conventional luxury holiday. We use carefully selected hotels and resorts in Delhi, Leh and Nubra, together with the best suitable locally available accommodation in Uleytokpo and Pangong. Day 1

Arrive in Delhi

Arrive at Delhi International Airport, where a MoreIndia Travels representative will meet you after immigration and baggage collection.

Transfer privately to the hotel and rest after the international journey. No sightseeing is scheduled on the arrival day.

For flights arriving shortly after midnight, the hotel room can be reserved from the previous night when this is included in the confirmed proposal.

Day 2

Fly from Delhi to Leh – Complete Rest and Acclimatization

Transfer to Delhi Airport for the morning flight across the Himalayas to Leh.

Upon arrival, meet the local representative and transfer directly to the hotel. Leh stands at approximately 3,500 metres, and the sudden increase in elevation requires a completely restful first day.

Remain at the hotel, drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol, strenuous walking and heavy physical activity. No sightseeing is scheduled.

Day 3

Thiksey, Shey and Shanti Stupa

After breakfast, begin a gentle introduction to Ladakh’s Buddhist heritage. The final program will depend on how everyone is responding to the altitude.

Visit Thiksey Monastery, one of Ladakh’s most visually impressive monastic complexes. Continue to historic Shey, formerly associated with Ladakh’s royal family.

Return to Leh for rest. Later, visit Shanti Stupa for panoramic views across the valley, subject to weather and the travelers’ condition.

The day remains flexible, and visits may be shortened if additional acclimatization time is required.

Day 4

Leh to Uleytokpo via the Indus Valley and Alchi

After breakfast, travel west through the Indus Valley.

Visit Gurudwara Pathar Sahib and view the meeting point of the Indus and Zanskar rivers. Continue to Basgo, whose historic ruins and temples occupy a dramatic hilltop setting.

Visit Alchi Monastery, particularly celebrated for its early Buddhist paintings, decorated wooden structures and artistic influences from Kashmir and the western Himalayas.

Continue to Uleytokpo and settle into the selected resort or best suitable accommodation. The remainder of the day is free to relax.

Day 5

Lamayuru and Likir – Return to Leh

Travel to Lamayuru, one of Ladakh’s oldest and most dramatically positioned monastic settlements.

Explore Lamayuru Monastery and view the surrounding eroded landscape commonly known as “Moonland.” Continue toward Likir Monastery, distinguished by its hilltop location and large outdoor Buddha image.

Return to Leh in the afternoon or early evening and rest at the hotel.

Leh to Nubra Valley

After breakfast, depart for Nubra Valley across the Ladakh Range.

Make a brief stop at Khardung La or another suitable viewpoint, depending on weather, traffic and the travelers’ condition. The stop at the highest point will remain short, and strenuous activity will be avoided.

Descend gradually into Nubra Valley and continue to the selected hotel, resort or camp. Relax for the remainder of the day.

Explore Nubra Valley

Explore Nubra Valley at a comfortable pace.

Visit Diskit Monastery, which overlooks the broad valley and surrounding mountain ranges. Continue toward Hunder and its unusual sand-dune landscape.

Observe the distinctive Bactrian camels associated with the region’s historic trading routes. Continue through nearby villages and, where appropriate, include a gentle village walk or local cultural visit.

Return to the accommodation with time to relax.

Day 8

Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake

Depart after an early breakfast for Pangong Lake using the approved and operational road available on the travel date.

The route passes through rugged valleys, isolated settlements and dramatic mountain landscapes. Roads can be uneven, and journey times depend on weather, construction, water crossings, traffic and official controls.

Arrive near Pangong Lake and check into the best suitable available camp, lodge or guesthouse. Enjoy the evening light across the lake without strenuous activity.

Day 9

Pangong Lake to Leh via Chang La

Enjoy the early-morning landscape before breakfast.

Return to Leh through the high-altitude terrain of eastern Ladakh, crossing Chang La and passing through Durbuk and Tangtse.

Stops at high points will remain brief. Arrive in Leh and enjoy a relaxed evening at the hotel.

Fly from Leh to Delhi

Transfer to Leh Airport for the flight to Delhi.

  • The arrival day in Leh is reserved for complete rest and should not be replaced with sightseeing.
  • Day 3 remains flexible according to how each traveler is responding to the altitude.
  • Guests experiencing worsening altitude-related symptoms must not continue to a higher elevation.
  • The guide and operations team may alter or cancel an excursion when health, weather or road conditions make it unsuitable.

  • Khardung La is not described as the world’s highest motorable pass. Stops at high passes will remain brief.
